Tim Keller has an article the new edition of the Vineyard’s Cutting Edge magazine. It’s called “Process Managing Church Growth”.
Here’s a quote,
One of the most common reasons for pastoral leadership mistakes is blindness to the significance of church size. Size has an enormous impact on how a church functions. There is a “size culture” that profoundly affects how decisions are made, how relationships flow, how effectiveness is evaluated, what its ministers, staff, and lay leaders do. We tend to think of the chief differences between churches mainly in denominations or theological terms, but that underestimates the impact of size on how a church operates.

Here’s a great photo of Rowan Williams (HT: Ruth Gledhill) at the Lambeth Conference. I have to say that Rowan is one of the most humble and intelligent people I have ever met - and in my experience these 2 qualities rarely go together.
Still, great photo …

Yesterday I went to my first Deanery Chapter lunch. The Chapter is the group of clergy in the various churches and chaplaincies in the local area (called the Deanery).
During the meeting Rev’d Tim Jones from St Hilda’s Church & St Lawrence in York spoke about his recent protest in a local stationery shop. It started when he was shopping with his daughter and noticed Playboy branded children’s stationery on sale. The shop manager said he didn’t like the products but he was required to place them by head office.
Tim came back the next day and made a protest in the shop, getting customers to sign a petition and refusing to leave until a representative from head office spoke to him - which happened 45mins later.
The story has had massive coverage in local and national newspapers and UK and International Television.
Well done Tim.
Here’s a selection of some of the coverage,
