Bishop Mike Hill, who incidentily I believe is the first Church of England blogging Bishop, has some great posts on his blog about the Emmerging Church.
His most recent post is challanging the assumption that a new venture needs paid workers from the beginning.
Here’s a quote …
When we think about beginning a new project, we set out from the foundational belief – almost credal – that you have to have paid staff from day one. I’ve been told by a leading C of E thinker on fresh expressions that, to pioneer a new project successfully, you need two full-time paid staff …
But does this need to be the case? …
… the apostle Paul didn’t seem to set out with this assumption either.
My concern is this: that by paying pioneers (generally with the condition that they pay us back within a limited time period), we hold them back in their mission rather than enable them to fulfil it …

Hi Mike,
Really appreciated your input at the Baptist Bash. Excellent. Undoubtedly an Anglican stole the show! What is your transfer fee?
Hope you get a moment to have a look at my book: Leading the Jesus Way. I think you will find all kinds of resonances with what you were sharing.
Thanks again and Blessings Mike Wood.
